WolfWorks Fine Woodworking custom designs and produces kitchen islands specifically for food preparation. The large butcher block top is made for chopping and cutting while the drawers and/or shelves provide easy access to your prep essentials.
A handy accessory for active cooks is a waste bin drawer that extends from the side to make it easy to depose of food scraps and keeps your work surface tidy.
These kitchen islands are tailored to your specific needs. You determine the overall size, number and type of drawers or shelves and wood species. The islands feature swivel casters that provides mobility but also lock for stability.
Each island is made with a 1 ½” thick end grain maple butcher block top. The butcher block top provides a flat durable cutting surface and is much gentler on the knife’s cutting edge because, instead of cutting across the wood fibers, the blade will actually “squeeze” between them, thus wearing out much slower. For the same reason, the top itself wears out at a slower rate than a conventional edge-grain cutting board and does not show cut marks like an edge-grain cutting board. An occasional application of mineral oil will ensure the long life of the top.
These kitchen islands are constructed of solid hardwood with mortise and tenon joinery and dovetailed drawers. The use of highly figured wood for the panels and drawer fronts adds a distinctive look. The drawers utilize Blum soft closing drawer slides that keep them from slamming closed.
Although the majority of these islands have a footprint of 24” deep and 36” long with a height of 33” to 34” they can be produced to your specifications.
Islands are finished with a durable industrial varnish on the case, drawers and/or shelves. The top has a hand rubbed application of food safe mineral oil.
